Brand Discovery with AI, a course by George Kao: handwritten scraps and paper pieces streaming into a glowing ring
Why this approach

You already have a brand

Brand work can feel heavy, because it seems to ask two impossible feats at once: invent yourself from a blank page, and see yourself objectively from inside your own life. Neither is possible, and neither is required.

Your brand has been forming for years, in what clients write to you, in the work you’ve made, and in what people thank you for. These courses help you gather that evidence and see the pattern you’re too close to see.

This bundle takes a gentler way in:

  • ✓Evidence comes first, from emails, reviews and notes you already have, and five to ten pieces is plenty.
  • ✓Your AI drafts and you edit, so every line traces back to words someone said about you. Anything merely flattering gets cut.
  • ✓You stand out without performing. You contrast your work with patterns in your field (never with people), and pair each one with what you offer instead.
  • ✓You find your look by reacting to pictures your AI makes, starting with the ones that are clearly not you.

You can try on a brand the way you try on clothing. Nothing here locks you in.

What you’ll learn

What you’ll be able to do, step by step

Brand Discovery with AI is a bundle of three recorded courses, best taken in order. Each one ends with a finished document, which becomes the starting material for the next:

  • ✓Discover Your Brand Strengths (according to your clients): your strengths in your clients’ own words, gathered into a Strengths doc and a short brand brief.
  • ✓Find Your Brand Positioning: where you stand, on a one-page Brand Compass that ends in a positioning statement in your own words.
  • ✓Create Your Visual Brand Identity: what that looks like, in a Brand Kit with your palette, fonts, imagery style and wordmark.

I recorded these courses with a group of students, so you’ll also hear some of their questions. Every lesson is written out in a lesson document you can read or hand to your AI, and most lessons have a short video too.

The first course

Discover Your Brand Strengths (according to your clients)

Your strengths, in your clients’ own words.

Painted scraps of color flowing toward a single gold square
  1. Session 1 · You already have a brand

Gather the kind words people have already said about you

Look in places you rarely revisit: thank-you emails, reviews, messages, notes from sessions, replies to your posts. A prompt turns your AI into a kind companion for the hunt, one source at a time.

If you haven’t saved testimonials, your AI can interview you about who you’ve helped (even informally), or read the work you’ve already made.

You’ll also ask a handful of people three questions about your work, in a short note your AI drafts in your voice. Replies often turn into warm conversations, and sometimes a returning client.

  2. Session 2 · Meet yourself in the mirror

See your strengths in one document you can stand behind

Your AI drafts a Strengths doc from your evidence, in five sections. One of them asks who your clients become after working with you: braver, clearer, or finally permitted.

Then you edit it line by line: keep what’s true, underline what you’d forgotten, and cut what’s merely flattering. A skeptical-pass prompt makes your AI show the words behind any line that feels too generous.

Last, you distill the whole doc into a short brand brief you can re-read in a minute.

The second course

Find Your Brand Positioning

Where you stand, in words you can comfortably say out loud.

Three soft painted circles and a small gold square on cream paper
  1. Module 1 · What you stand for, and what you stand against

Say what you stand for and against, with dignity

Lift your values from your Strengths doc, and keep the ones that pass one question: would I defend this, even when it costs me?

Then list the patterns in your field your people are weary of (never colleagues, never whole modalities), and pair each one with what you offer instead.

A playful poll asks your audience which well-known brands your work is more like, and why.

This module is free to watch for 72 hours: start the free Module 1 replay.

  2. Module 2 · Who you’re resonant with, and what makes you distinct

Know what makes you distinct, and put it on one page

From your audience’s reasons, pick three to five well-loved brands your work resembles, and the one trait you borrow from each. Then give your AI the web pages of colleagues whose work is closest to yours, and have it quote two exact sentences from each page first, so you know it read them.

You’ll see your distinctness as a combination: who does best with you, how the work goes, what you ask of people, and what you refuse to do. Your Brand Compass gathers all of this on one page, with a positioning statement in your own words.

The third course

Create Your Visual Brand Identity

What that looks like, in color, type and image.

A fan of painted color swatches beside a gold wax seal
  1. Module 1 · From your words to a visual language

Find a visual direction and a color palette that feel like you

Say out loud what you like and dislike on a few web pages, then have your AI make two confident visual directions, far apart. Your “no” arrives in about a second, and it narrows the field fast.

From the closer direction, you shape a moodboard one change at a time. Your palette then starts from the feeling you want clients to have, and a free contrast checker keeps your text readable.

This module is free to watch for 72 hours: start the free Module 1 replay.

  2. Module 2 · Your assets, and the kit that holds them

Leave with a Brand Kit you can hand to any AI or designer

Choose two fonts by seeing them on your own page, settle on an imagery style, and set your name as a wordmark in free Google Drawings.

Then gather everything into a Brand Kit with a one-page style guide, and use the kit to make a course cover, a social post and an email header.

What you keep

Documents you’ll keep using

Across the three courses, you build five documents. Each one grows out of the one before.

Your living documents

  1. 1Evidence file
  2. 2Strengths doc
  3. 3Brand brief
  4. 4Brand Compass
  5. 5Brand Kit

Add new kind words to your Evidence file as they arrive. Every six to twelve months, re-run the prompts and let the documents change as you have.

Your Brand Compass

  1. 1What you stand for
  2. 2What you stand against
  3. 3Brands you’re resonant with, and the one trait you borrow from each
  4. 4What makes you distinct among others in your field
  5. 5Your positioning statement, in your own words

Your Compass fits on one page, short enough to glance at. Use it as the brief for your About page and bio, and as a filter when an opportunity shows up.

Writing that About page is its own course: Describe Your Work Clearly.

From students

What students loved most

When students wrote about these courses, these are the moments they mentioned most:

  • ✓Learning that what their clients valued most was how they felt during the work.
  • ✓Finding kind words they had forgotten about, in book reviews, feedback forms and old emails.
  • ✓An AI interview that felt relaxed, and left them with an evidence file they felt good about.
  • ✓Turning generic praise like “you provide clarity” into a line only they could claim.
  • ✓A list of what they stand for that came together better than they expected.

These come from students of the first two courses.

“What seems to be emerging is that it's not my ability to teach writing craft and skill but rather how I make people feel during the process — accepted and believed without judgement.”

MichaelStudent

“I put the prompt into ChatGPT, and so far, I've entered in five book reviews, one email and three coaching testimonials. I hadn't thought of these for a while, so this was enlightening.”

My covers looked like ten different businesses

I started my business in 2009 with an MBA in hand and no idea how to do branding on myself. For years I avoided brand work, afraid it would lock me into a version of myself I was still outgrowing.

When I finally laid out my own course covers, all twenty-two of them, they looked like ten different businesses.

What freed me was trying on a brand the way you try on clothing. You’ll see me work through every exercise on my own brand (two of my colors failed the contrast check).

Is this for you?

A good fit if…

  • ✓You’re a coach, healer, teacher or other soulpreneur, and brand work has been on your list for years
  • ✓You suspect you come across differently than you think, and you’d like to know how
  • ✓Talking about your strengths feels awkward, and you’d like words that don’t sound like bragging
  • ✓You haven’t saved testimonials, because you’re new, changing direction, or never kept the kind words
  • ✓You’d like your look to stop working against what you offer
  • ✓You’re willing to use AI as a mirror, and to stay the judge of what’s true

Probably not if…

  • ×You want someone to hand you a finished brand. In these courses, you do the choosing
  • ×You’d rather not use AI at all. Your AI does the drafting throughout these courses
  • ×You want personal coaching or feedback. These courses are recorded, and you work through them at your own pace
  • ×You need an identity system for a larger company, or a new website built. These courses stay with a brand kit for a one-person business

Questions

Before you enroll

“Is this one course or three?”

Three recorded courses, sold together as one bundle. Take them in order, because each one starts from the documents you made in the one before.

If you don’t have those documents yet, the second and third courses each give you a quick way to start without them.

“Do I need testimonials already?”

No. Your AI can interview you about who you’ve helped (even informally), or read posts and pages you’ve written and find the patterns.

You’ll also ask a few people who know your work three questions, and a handful of replies is enough.

“Can’t AI just read my website and tell me my brand?”

It can, and that’s worth doing. But it only reflects what you’ve already said about yourself, which is half the picture (and maybe a version of you that you’ve outgrown).

These courses start from what other people say about you, the view you can’t get on your own.

“Won’t the result sound like AI instead of me?”

Your AI drafts from evidence you give it: your clients’ words and your own work. Then you edit every line, and the skeptical pass makes your AI show the evidence behind anything that sounds too generous or too generic.

You stay the final judge of what’s true, in all three courses.

“What if saying my strengths out loud feels like bragging?”

Several students said that about their first Strengths doc, and the positioning course is my answer. You’ll write one line twice, once pointing at yourself and once pointing at the work, and the second is almost always the one you can publish.

Saying it without saying it is what most well-loved brands do, and it suits anyone raised to find self-promotion a little embarrassing.

“Won’t being specific mean fewer people hire me?”

You don’t have to niche your whole identity. Niche your offers instead: each offer is a doorway, framed around a problem people already know they have.

Once someone walks through, you can do whatever work you believe is best for them.

“I have no eye for design. Is that a problem?”

You can tell within a couple of seconds when a website feels off. That’s taste, and these courses use it by having your AI make pictures for you to react to.

In these courses, nobody starts from a blank page or a color wheel.

“What do I need?”

An AI chat in your browser, such as ChatGPT, Claude or Gemini. For the visual course, you’ll want one that makes images, like ChatGPT or Gemini.

Your wordmark is made in Google Drawings, free with a Google account, so you won’t need design software.

Each course’s Start Here page also has a prompt that turns your AI into a tutor for that course.

“How much time does it take?”

The videos add up to about two hours across all three courses, in short lessons. The visual course’s second module is mostly written lessons.

Most of your time goes into the exercises: gathering evidence, asking a few people, and reacting to what your AI makes. Replies trickle in over days, so you can go at whatever pace suits you.

“Can I try it before I buy?”

Yes. Two modules are free to watch for 72 hours after you sign up with your email: Module 1 of Find Your Brand Positioning and Module 1 of Create Your Visual Brand Identity.

If you buy Brand Discovery with AI, both modules come with it, along with the rest of its three courses, and you keep them for life.

“Will I get personal feedback?”

The courses are recorded, and they don’t include personal feedback.

The first course includes a few past students’ questions and notes, with my replies, and you can bring your own questions to my free monthly Q&A call.

“How is this different from Your Energy Signature?”

Your Energy Signature works from the inside: your values and your essence. These courses work from the outside, starting with what clients experience, and your brand brief is where you can bring both together.
