Mainstream persuasion, filtered through your values
If you were to follow most marketing advice, you’d be told to learn persuasive copywriting and how to cleverly charm people to do what you want….
Since we prioritize authenticity, our hearts recoil from those mainstream tactics...
But what if there are important gems within “persuasion psychology” that can be applied to make things easier and more enjoyable for our audience, while doing it from a genuine place of service and heart?
This course goes looking for those gems:
- ✓You personally choose the few principles and tactics you can use with authenticity and integrity, and leave the rest.
- ✓Catching attention can fit your own energy, even when a video coach says you only have three seconds.
- ✓You learn the classic before-and-after story formulas without over-promising the after. (I try never to promise results myself.)
- ✓Scarcity comes in only when a limit is real, and you can say why.
Let’s filter out the noise, and keep the music.
How might we take mainstream “persuasion” tactics and use them in genuine service to our audience?
What you’ll be able to do, step by step
I recorded this course with a group of students, so some lessons answer their questions, and in one I review websites they volunteered.
Each module has its videos and a lesson document you can read or hand to your AI.
- Module 1 · Welcome, and the two routes to yes
See why a message draws you in or pushes you away
Start noticing the content and offers that make you say a wholebody “Yes!”, and the ones that turn you off. The Elaboration Likelihood Model shows whether a message works through careful reasoning (the central route) or through feelings, visuals and quick impressions (the peripheral route).
You’ll apply one or two peripheral-route tips to an old post (about half an hour) and to one of your offers, without sinking hours into either.
This module is free to watch for 72 hours: start the free Module 1 replay.
- Module 2 · Aristotle and Monroe
Check a message for credibility, feeling and reasoning, and give it a clear shape
Use Aristotle’s Ethos, Pathos and Logos to see what a post or an offer is missing. (For my case study, I diagnose one of my own courses that sold poorly.)
Monroe’s Motivated Sequence then gives a message a clear shape: attention, need, satisfaction, visualization and action. Optional lessons show how to use an AI assistant as a thinking partner to apply any lesson to your own writing.
- Module 3 · Storytelling formulas
Tell a client’s story, or your own, in a way people can relate to
Practice the basic story arc, the Hero’s Journey, Before-After-Bridge, the Pixar formula and And-But-Therefore. Use them for client case studies, your origin story, or your About page.
If you’re a more reserved person, you’ll learn to teach from your scars, not your wounds, and how to ask a client’s permission before sharing their story.
- Module 4 · NLP tools, used with care
Listen more deeply, and write in the words and senses your clients use
I’m no NLP expert (I consciously avoided learning it, half joking that it might turn me into a manipulator). In this module, I share the tools that pass our four values: deep listening, mirroring with care, sensory language and outcome questions.
You’ll improve how you are helping your audience feel seen, heard, and understood.
- Module 5 · The godfathers of persuasion
Use Cialdini’s principles and Fogg’s habit model without pressure or FOMO
Work with Similarity, Authority, Likeability, Unity and Scarcity, each with ideas for your content and your offers. You’ll also learn to ask people how you come across, using an anonymous Google Form, like whether a credential makes you more appealing or more intimidating.
Then use BJ Fogg’s Behavior = Motivation + Ability + Prompt to make the next step easier, like replacing a back-and-forth email with a booking link.
- Module 6 · Review
Spot what makes a website easy or hard to say yes to
Watch me review three websites that students volunteered, looking at what invites a yes and what gets in the way. And you’ll learn to tell a persuasion problem from a market-fit problem, so you know when market research is the better next step.
Using my notes template, you’ll complete the course with a personalized checklist of principles and tips to remember for creating authentic content and offers.
- Supplemental · “Ethical” persuasion?
Think through where persuasion turns into pressure
An open exploration of persuasion and sovereignty, including my Innocent Child and Manipulative Adult distinction.
I don’t hand you a settled answer here. I share what I think so far, and what I’m still unsure about.
Four values for every technique
I suggest these four values in the first module, and every technique in the course is checked against this list. You’ll come back to the values each time you study an example or revise your own work.
The values of Effortless Yes
- 1Ease/Relief vs Dense/Difficult: lowering barriers and simplifying interactions
- 2Enjoyment vs Boring: the thing itself is worthwhile as a piece of content (even if it’s an offer)
- 3Trust vs Skepticism: building credibility, goodwill, and loyalty over time
- 4Agency vs Coercion: transparency and autonomy

What students loved most
When students write about this course, these are the moments they mention most:
- ✓Noticing why a message draws them in or turns them off, then catching tactics in their own marketing they’d picked up without realizing.
- ✓The four values, which gave them a way to judge any technique for themselves.
- ✓Rewriting an old post or offer in a warmer, more person-to-person voice, and seeing what they’d already been doing right by instinct.
- ✓Pasting a lesson into an AI assistant, and getting help polishing their own copy.
- ✓Deep listening in sessions, a skill one student says her clients appreciate.
These come from students of an earlier version of the course.
“It seems the key is asking for permission at every stage. … If they no longer want to give us permission, then allow them to go. Rather than force or manipulate or trick them into staying.”
“I am happy with the updates I made. I added testimonials and used more emotion inducing language that is still authentic to me, to my brand, and to my program.”

Ethos is my strongest suit
My copywriting and graphics aren’t great, and my logic is about average. What I’ve leaned on is Ethos: showing up for years with the same message and values.
This course shows you how to check a message for credibility, emotion and reasoning, the way Aristotle described them. When all three are there, people can say yes without feeling pushed.
A good fit if…
- ✓You’re a coach, healer, teacher or other soulpreneur, and your heart recoils from pushy marketing
- ✓You have a post or an offer you’d like to make easier for the right people to say yes to
- ✓You’re curious about mainstream persuasion, and want to keep only what fits your values
- ✓You like noticing why things work, and trying small changes in your own writing
Probably not if…
- ×You don’t have an offer or an audience yet. Persuasion can only multiply interest that’s already there
- ×You want personal coaching or feedback on your copy. This course is recorded, and you work through the lessons at your own pace
- ×You want urgency scripts. This course uses scarcity only when the limit is real
By the end, you’ll…
- 1Spot what draws you in or puts you off in other people’s marketing, and why.
- 2Check any persuasion technique against four values before you use one.
- 3Have revised a post and an offer, using the frameworks that suit you.
- 4Tell a client’s story, or your own, with a story formula that fits.
- 5Keep a personal checklist of the principles you want to remember.

Before you enroll
“Isn’t persuasion manipulative?”
Some of the mainstream kind is, which is why every technique in this course gets checked against the four values above.
A supplemental module goes further into where persuasion turns into pressure, using my Innocent Child and Manipulative Adult distinction. I share what I think, and what I’m still unsure about.
“How much time does it take?”
The six core modules come to about four and a half hours of videos, most of them short. A supplemental module and a few extra clips add a little more.
The exercises are meant to be light (about half an hour to improve a post). If you set aside around 30 minutes a week, you can work through the course at whatever pace fits your life.
“What if nothing I offer is selling yet?”
Then start with market research. Persuasion multiplies the interest that’s already there, and a percentage of zero is still zero.
If you share an offer and hear crickets, the people you reached are telling you they don’t need that service. Module 6 shows how to read that silence as market research.
“I’m an introvert. Can I do this in my own way?”
Yes. The course keeps coming back to your Energy Signature, so you choose the techniques and ways of getting attention that feel like you.
If you’re a more reserved person, you’ll learn ways to share a story without exposing too much, like waiting until a wound has become a scar, or telling the story anonymously.
“Do I need credentials?”
No. The Authority lesson covers ways to build credibility without formal titles, and a quick anonymous poll to ask your audience whether a credential would even help.
(I rarely mention my own MBA, since I learned at least 90% of running a solo business by trial and error outside the degree.)
“Can’t AI just write my marketing for me?”
AI can write copy in seconds. What it can’t do is choose which techniques fit your values and your voice.
The course shows how to use AI as a smart intern and thinking partner, and why handing your whole voice to AI, or to a hired copywriter, can cost you trust.
“Can I try it before I buy?”
Yes. Module 1 is free to watch for 72 hours after you sign up with your email: start the free replay.
If you buy the course, Module 1 comes with it, along with all the others, and you keep them for life.
“Will I get personal feedback?”
The course is recorded, and it doesn’t include personal feedback on your writing.
The lesson documents for the first two modules include some past students’ questions with my answers, and you can bring your own questions to my free monthly Q&A call.
“Can I use it with my AI?”
Yes. Give a module’s lesson document to ChatGPT, Claude or Gemini, and work through the course together.
A few details about AI tools have changed since I recorded the lessons. The core ideas still hold.
