Authentic Copywriting:
Selling Effectively
Through Honest Writing
A New Online Training From George Kao
Good "copy" (what you write for your marketing materials) describes the benefits of your products/services -- in such a way that it resonates with your ideal clients.

Whether you are writing for your website, newsletter, or social media ads, the skill of copywriting is essential to good marketing.

You can either learn it yourself or outsource it.

The trouble with outsourcing this is that it’s expensive -- at least several hundred dollars per page! -- and yet, the results often feel inauthentic, because it’s literally not the voice of the business owner/service provider, but that of a marketer.

Here’s my invitation to all of us heart-based business owners:

What if copywriting can feel to you like an exercise of genuine connection?

Here’s something counterintuitive that I’ve noticed from a decade of marketing experience:

We don’t have to try to convince the customer.

If your offer is already aligned to their wants and needs, then you only need to write plainly.

Your ideal clients simply want you to be straightforward, honest with them about what you believe they can expect when they work with you.

You don’t have to try to hypnotize or charm them to make them buy. (How would you feel if you knew someone was doing that to you, just to get a sale?)

I believe that the Golden Rule can be applied to marketing. I’ve seen it work in my own business: doing unto others what I want done unto me in my marketing creates more consistent loyalty and sustainable sales over time.

Doing what feels deeply good to our conscience actually makes our marketing easier over time, because we’ve developed genuine trust with our audience.

In fact, if you’ve learned about “persuasion psychology” you may need to detox from manipulative sales methods. (What you learn in this course will help you find a healthier way forward!)

Still, it’s helpful to have a thoughtful structure when you write your sales pages (for example, your “work with me” webpage and your product descriptions.)

In this course, I’ll teach you my favorite structure and you’ll learn how to customize it to your own voice and style.

We will cover:

  • The importance of connecting compassionately to your clients’ wants.

  • How to come up with the initial ideas for your copywriting by collaborating with your audience (or if you don’t have one, start with your friends).

  • How to relax and do your copywriting from the heart.

  • My copywriting structure, step by step.

  • How to customize that structure for your own voice and style.

  • The process of learning from others’ copywriting and how to emulate the best, and avoid the objectionable.

  • How to do split testing even if you’ve never done it before -- a data-driven way to test your copywriting -- with the free tool Google Optimize.

  • You'll also be able to connect with fellow participants of this course to trade ideas of what's working and swap helpful feedback for each other's copywriting!

The Bottom Line:

Learn to do copywriting as a process of genuine service and connection to your ideal client, and you'll actually
look forward to the process!
